First celebrated in 1940, Apple Day is one of the most popular and unique traditions at Mary
Baldwin University. Classes are cancelled for undergraduate students, and the community
enjoys apple gleaning, a special brunch at Hunt Dining Hall, and a carnival. Apple Day is also
about giving back to the community: all of the apples gleaned during the day are donated to a
local food bank.
