This Obie Award winning avant-garde musical follows the adventures of two honest men who just happen to be prisoners as they escape into the glittering wilds and seedy underbellies of 1960s New York City. Written by Cuban-American queer playwright María Irene Fornés, a powerhouse of the American experimental theatre scene, Promenade is both wickedly funny and blistering in its critique of class, capitalism, and exploitation. This convention-bending show grew out of Fornes’ experiments with the forms of playwriting; she picked characters, locations and lines of dialogue from three stacks of shuffled index cards to write scenes and develop the absurd scenarios and madcap action the musical traverses!
