What is the Women’s Leadership Symposium?

Hosted by the Mary Baldwin College for Women, this program provides a wonderful opportunity for students, faculty and staff, community members, and alumni to network, connect, and mentor while learning about the strength of empowerment and creativity of women in leadership.

Friday, March 25

Women in Leadership Networking Reception
5:30 – 7 p.m. ET
Staunton Innovation Hub (11 N Central Ave, Staunton, VA 24401)

Students are invited to join alumni and local women leaders at a kickoff networking event and reception. This event is designed to connect students with women leaders and women in business.

Saturday, March 26

Brunch and Keynote Presentation with Amii Barnard-Bahn
11:00 a.m. ET – Brunch; 12:00 p.m. ET – Keynote
MBU Campus, Student Activities Center Ballroom (SAC)

Join us for brunch and a riveting keynote address by Executive Coach and MBU Trustee, Amii Barnard-Bahn, JD on the power of promotability. (CLICK HERE for a sneak preview!) Learn how to define and develop your strengths to compete in various arenas of leadership.

Break and Book Signing

During this brief break between the keynote presentation and concurrent learning workshops, in-person attendees will have an opportunity to get their book signed by Amii Barnard-Bahn. Refreshments/snacks will be provided.

Concurrent Learning Workshops

1:30 – 3:45 p.m. ET
Hybrid/Locations Vary

Interactive discussions with students and alumni combined with project-based workshops. Each group will alternate between the following topics from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and 2:40-3:40 p.m.


  • “Ace the Interview!” – GROUP A
    • Learn how to prepare and present yourself in the first and second interviews. This session will include pointers for negotiating salary.
  • “Why You In Two Minutes or Less” – GROUP B
    • It Doesn’t Take All Day to Recognize Sunshine. Develop a brief summary that synthesizes your skills, experience and vision and convinces someone to hire you.

Closing Session

4-4:30 p.m. ET
MBU Campus, Student Activities Center Ballroom (SAC)

Closing session will conclude with shared thoughts and experiences from the day; a save-the-date for 2023 and a fun door prize drawing! This session will be open to in-person attendees only and will not be livestreamed.
