Keely and Du, written by Jane Martin, is a hard-hitting drama that is a balanced, frank and thought-provoking examination of abortion issues in a passionately candid production. The play vividly presents two extreme abortion stances in conflict. Keely and Du deals with the physical and emotional realities of procreation through characters who fight for ideals, but have warm and very human personalities.
Directed by Gettys Kobiashvili, a senior at Mary Baldwin, fellow students Lauren Stafford and Lizz McVey portray Keely and Du, respectively. As the senior project for both Kobiashvili and McVey, this production is the culmination of their Mary Baldwin theatre major.
Mike Lafferty returns to the Mary Baldwin stage as Walter with newcomer Donny Middleton playing Cole. Mary Baldwin students C.C. Chervenka, Sage Merritt, Katy Sue Tillman, and Kat Tucker round out the cast as guards and orderlies.
The adult nature of the issues explored in Keely and Du is not appropriate for younger audiences.
