The Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) will hold an Academic Awards Parade on Friday, January 28, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. at the track on Mary Baldwin University’s campus. The public is invited to attend free of charge.
Cadets will be honored for achieving high academics last semester. Academic gold stars will be presented to students who earned a 3.0 – 3.49 grade point average, and silver stars will be given to students who achieved a 3.5 – 4.0 grade point average.
A drum ceremony, color guard, pass and review, marching band and military formations will be featured in the parade. There will also be several speakers.
VWIL, now in its fifth year, made history last spring when 22 young women graduated from its inaugural class. It is a comprehensive program for Mary Baldwin students who are interested in intensive leadership training. The program includes academic requirements in mathematics, sciences, statistics, computer science, foreign language, leadership studies, military training, and outdoor education programs focusing on the development of confidence and teamwork.
Inclement weather will cancel the parade.
