Voice Recital Spotlights Cherry Aycock

Charlotte Cherry Aycock will present a free voice recital on Sunday, April 9th, at 7:30 p.m. in Mary Baldwin University’s Francis Auditorium, located in the Pearce Science Center at the corner of Coalter and Frederick Streets in Staunton.

An Mary Baldwin senior from Houston, TX, Aycock is an English major and is pursuing minors in music and women’s studies. This entertaining voice recital will be performed in several languages and includes selections from the American musical theater. Aycock is a Soprano II and is performing this farewell performance with accompanist Dr. Don Roe.

Aycock has been singing since the age of eight, and has always had a special place in her heart for the study of music, as well as a passion for musical theater. The performance will be dedicated to Aycock’s grandmother, Mrs. Claude Gary Turner. Formerly Jane Bell Mattox, Mrs. Turner graduated from Mary Baldwin University in 1938 with a music minor. A talented singer and entertainer in her own right, Mrs. Turner has been an inspirational figure in Aycock’s life and will attend the performance along with Aycock’s mother, Claudia, who is also an Mary Baldwin graduate.
