Mary Baldwin Chaplain Publishes Book of Prayers

Playing with Fire: Sermons and Prayers from Mary Baldwin University, by the Reverend Patricia Hunt, Mary Baldwin University’s chaplain, has just been published by Mary Baldwin University.

InPlaying with Fire: Sermons and Prayers, Hunt has collected prayers and sermons that have been delivered during the last 16 years at Mary Baldwin. She is recognized by the Mary Baldwin community as an inspired writer of prayers that bring perspective and even humor at the important moments of a college’s life, whether difficult or celebratory.

Ms. Hunt is also director of the Carpenter Quest program, a unique program that helps students integrate religious commitment, intellectual development, and service. She earned a B.A. from Wake University and an M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia.

Playing with Fire: Sermons and Prayerswas published thanks to a contribution from Gordon and Martha Anne “Mopsy” Pool Page. In her introductions, Hunt acknowledges them for conceiving the project and for their encouragement over the years.

Mary Baldwin University is a multi-faceted liberal arts college in Staunton, Virginia, with three residential programs for women – the traditional program, the Program for the Exceptionally Gifted, and the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership – as well as coeducational, non-residential Adult Degree and master’s programs. The oldest women’s college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., Mary Baldwin was founded in 1842 and is also the first women’s college to be granted a circle of the national leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa. It is one of only 262 colleges and universities to house a chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
