U.S. Army Brass Quintet To Give Free Concert at Mary Baldwin

October 24, 2002

The United States Army Brass Quintet is the third performer in Mary Baldwin University’s 2002–03 Carl Broman Concert series. The quintet will play Thursday, November 7, at 8 p.m. in Francis Auditorium in Pearce Science Center at Coalter and Frederick streets in Staunton. The concert is free and open to the public.

Formed in 1972, the quintet, part of The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own), plays regularly at the White House and for official ceremonies. The group has performed widely in this country and abroad, premiering compositions for brass quintet and inspiring new arrangements. Its recordings, television appearances and live radio broadcasts in the United States and Great Britain have brought their music to millions.

The music series is named for Dr. Carl W. Broman, a member of the Mary Baldwin University faculty from 1935 to 1976 who built an unusually strong undergraduate music program. For more information, contact Mary Baldwin Associate Professor Robert Allen at (540) 887-7294.
