January 12, 2004

Dawn Medley, education reporter for the Staunton News Leader, has been named assistant director of strategic communication at Mary Baldwin University.

Medley, a Staunton resident and native of the upstate New York town of Groveland, is a 2000 graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg. At Randolph-Macon, she was a student leader and managing editor of the campus newspaper. Before taking the education beat at The News Leader, she covered Waynesboro for the paper. Earlier, she was a general-assignment reporter for the Lynchburg News & Advance.

“We’ve admired Dawn’s wide-ranging coverage of often complex education issues,” said George Graves, director of strategic communication at Mary Baldwin. “We’re delighted that she has joined our team.”

Medley’s husband, Joseph Medley, is the assistant city horticulturist in Waynesboro.
