Guillermo Ubilla, former director of residence life at Shenandoah University, has been named Mary Baldwin’s new director of residence life. Melinda S. Brown will join him in the office as the associate director of residence life and freshman services.
During his two years at Shenandoah, Ubilla helped develop several living and learning communities where students with like interests — such as music, living healthy, and community service — live together to support each other and work on cooperative projects. He earned an undergraduate degree and a master of education in counseling psychology at James Madison University. Ubilla also helped Shenandoah’s residence life staff use technology to create a housing database, use an interactive college calendar, and redesign student affairs Web sites.
Brown, a graduate of Sweet Briar College and Oregon State University, has also worked in residence life at Shenandoah, as well as Oregon State University and Saint Mary’s College of Indiana, where she gained extensive experience in communicating with and leading students.
