College Republicans and Democrats Host Back-to-School Block Party

August 31, 2004

The Mary Baldwin University Republicans and the College Democrats will host a community back-to-school block party this Saturday, September 4, from 3 to 8 p.m. to increase voter awareness within the Staunton community. The event will be held in the Student Activities Center parking lot, 316 Academy Street.

In addition to a cookout and live musical entertainment, there will be a voter registration booth to register new voters and allow students to fill out absentee ballots. Virginia Delegate Chris Saxman (R-20th) will be addressing everyone who attends on the importance of exercising the right to vote.

The band Only on Sunday will perform. Included in the entertainment will be a dunk tank and outdoor family-friendly games. The class of 2007 of Mary Baldwin University will be sponsoring a car wash that will serve as a fundraiser for the annual Apple Day celebration. Free food and drinks will be provided and the event is open to the public.
