Those of us in the greater Staunton area are presented with a rare opportunity to meet and hear from the foremost authority on the choreography of Vaslav Nijinsky when Millicent Hodson arrives March 15 at Mary Baldwin University. Hodson will present a lecture and demonstration on Le Sacre u Printemps in the college’s Dance Studio.
The music for Le Sacre du Printemps was composed by Igor Stravinsky. The piece was first presented in Paris in 1913 by Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe. The musical piece was met with controversy on its debut. Hodson has restaged the work throughout the world and has written several books on the restaging of important works by Nijinsky and George Balanchine.
The dance studio is located in the Physical Activities Center off Tams Street in Staunton. This lecture is at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. For more information please contact Pam McCray at 886-9355.
