Be of Good Cheer at Mary Baldwin

November 23, 2005

The community is invited to celebrate a day of holiday cheer by visiting Mary Baldwin University’s Administration Building which is part of a tour sponsored by the Historic Staunton Foundation, and then taking a short walk across the street to First Presbyterian Church for Mary Baldwin’s annual Christmas Cheer service.

The Historic Staunton Foundation’s 33rd Annual Christmas House Tour on December 4 runs from 1 to 5 p.m., so people interested in attending both events can easily slip across the street to join in an evening of carols and scripture readings from 4-5 p.m. Visit for more information regarding the tour, and locations to purchase tickets.

Christmas Cheer will feature Mary Baldwin University’s Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, Baldwin Charm, and Anointed Voices of Praise. Madrigals, an elite a capella group, will be singing a lively 16th century Spanish Christmas carol, Riu Riu, Chiu, The Star Carol by American composer Alfred Burt, and Merrily Sing Noel! by Linda Speyacek.

Baldwin Charm, the college’s other elite a capella group, will be singing a pop rendition of Oh, Holy Night. The Anointed Voices of Praise, a group of 20 young gospel singers, will sing Now Behold the Lamb by Kirk Franklin and Celebrate by John Kee. Mary Baldwin’s Concert Choir, made up of nearly 80 singers, will be singing traditional holiday carols.

Christmas Cheer is free of charge. Tickets for the Historic Staunton Foundation’s Christmas House Tour are available at The Bookstack, The Emporium, Byers Street Housewares, Streamer’s and at the door.
