January 18, 2007

You are invited to attend a very special holiday event. It may be your first or your next Kwanzaa celebration, one filled with storytelling, dancing, drumming, feasting, and learning traditions. Learning? Do you know the seven principles of Kwanzaa? The public ’ including children and elders ’ is welcome to join the Mary Baldwin University faculty, staff, and students for Kwanzaa in the college dining hall January 27 at 6 p.m.

You may also choose to wear colorful and/or Afro-centric apparel. The colors of red, black, and green are associated with Kwanzaa and hold special meaning. The seven principles of Kwanzaa are values many hold dear: unity, self-determination, work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. These principles will be presented and expressed through various art forms like music, dance, and storytelling.
