Mary Baldwin University’s Carl W. Broman Concert Series presents violinist Mayuko Kamio at 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 21. The concert will feature works by Tartini, Beethoven, Stravinsky, and Waxman.
Kamio made her concert debut in Tokyo at the age of ten on NHK television. Since then, she has appeared as a soloist with the Boston Pops, the Tonhalle Orchestra in Zurich, the Israel Philharmonic, and on tour with the Russian National Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic, and the BBC Philharmonic, among others.
At the age of 13, Kamio won First Prize in the 2000 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. In 2001, she was the youngest artist ever to be presented in the Young Concert Artists Series at the Kennedy Center. Her debut New York City performances in 2003 prompted the New York Times to call Kamio an ’exciting young musician’ and ’a radiant talent.’
