Mary Baldwin Theatre to present Communicating Doors

November 4, 2008

According to playwright Alan Ayckbourn,Communicating Doorsis a cross between “Back to the Future” and “Psycho.” The play opens in an elegant London hotel in 2014 with a reluctant dominatrix, Poopay, played by Shae Armstrong. Although she never pursues her trade, she does witness the murder confession of Reece Welles, enacted by Michael Lafferty. The show is a witty rollercoaster, whirling back and forth between 2014, 1994, and 1974 with comedic wit and heart.

Director Frank Southerington brings the comedy-thriller to life with a wonderful ensemble cast. The premise is outrageous, but hey, it’s theatre — anything goes. A dominatrix and two murdered wives prove they are more than a match for three befuddled men. With the help of a jazzy time traveling door you’ve got the perfect combination for a fun filled evening. Can Poopay out-smart Reese’s evil partner Julian? Will Ruella, the second wife, save Jessica, the first Mrs. Welles, from the killer? This play turns the world upside down and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
