Justin Tyler Owens

Dr. Justin Tyler Owens is an accomplished leader in student affairs with a rich background in enhancing the student engagement experience at various educational institutions. He joined Mary Baldwin University (MBU) as the Vice President of Student Engagement in March 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a genuine passion for student life improvement.

A staunch advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, Dr. Owens has dedicated his career to creating more inclusive communities on campus. He is committed to expanding student engagement opportunities, improving campus experiences, and fostering environments that support student growth and satisfaction.

Dr. Owens has navigated through various roles in student affairs, from residence hall director to director of residence life, and from student services representative to dean of students. This path was driven by his desire to understand and positively impact every facet of student life, ensuring that he could lead with empathy and effectiveness at the executive level.

Dr. Owens holds a bachelor’s degree from Susquehanna University and a Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University. He further solidified his expertise in educational leadership with a PhD in Educational Leadership for Higher Education from Clemson University.
