Mark Erath is an Associate Professor at Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences, Mary Baldwin University. He has over 30 years’ experience serving health systems, payors, academic medical centers, and other diverse organizations nationwide, leading teams to deliver strategy, operations, finance, risk management, accountability, and performance excellence solutions.

He has taught courses in healthcare financial planning, analysis and control; economics and policy; business operations and management; and performance quality, measurement, accreditation and public reporting.

Previously, he worked in surgery as a hospital volunteer, as a PwC Healthcare Partner (now retired), as Chief Financial Officer of Geisinger Medical Center and Parkland Health and Hospital System, and as the Health Practice Strategist of SmithGroup Architects.  He is a Master Examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and a Board member/Treasurer of Cynosure Health.

Mark Erath holds an MBA in Healthcare Leadership, with honors, from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and he received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Louisiana State University.  He is board-certified as a Fellow in healthcare management and finance, a Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Global Management Accountant, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, and Certified Specialist, Managed Care.
