Nurse Anesthesiology Cost and Aid
Let’s look at the cost of a DNP at MBU, and some of the ways we work with you to make your education affordable for you and your family.
Academic Year 2026–27
These costs apply to the Fall ’26, Spring ’27, and Summer ’27 semesters.
Direct Costs
| Nurse Anesthesiology | |
| Tuition | $17,152/semester |
| Program fee* | $525 (one-time payment) |
MBU’s Nurse Anesthesiology curriculum consists of 104 credit hours and traditionally spans 36 months (nine semesters).
Tuition includes program and university fees (technology fee, credentialing fee, simulation lab supplies fee, malpractice insurance, AANA associate membership, Typhon fee, and review course/materials). Tuition and fees are set annually and may be subject to change based upon academic year, continuing student status, Grad PLUS loan eligibility, etc. Costs are based on full-time status (9 or more credits per semester). Part-time cost is $1,470 per credit-hour.
To be eligible for federal financial aid, students must be enrolled in 4.5 credit hours per semester.
*The Program Fee attempts to cover required educational and technology resources for students. This fee will reduce the number of resources you are responsible for purchasing out-of-pocket and it can be applied to financial aid costs. For example, the fee covers your electronic textbooks, DynaMed access, and ultrasound tuition.
Indirect Costs
Students should also anticipate additional indirect costs such as books, supplies, travel, recreation, and personal items. These expenses are not billed by MBU but are considered when determining financial aid awards.
Estimates for these expenses are included below but vary from student to student:
| Semesterly Payments | One-Time Payments | Cumulative Payments | |
| Books and supplies | $550 | — | — |
| Travel | $768 | — | — |
| Health insurance | $500 | — | — |
| Application fee (NursingCas) | — | $70 | — |
| CastleBranch | — | $151 | — |
| Lab coat | — | $45 | — |
| NCE Exam | — | $995 | — |
| Conference attendance | — | — | $1,000 |
| Loan fees (if federal loans are borrowed) | $72 | — | — |
| GPlus Loan fees | $916 | — | — |
| Living | $10,500 | — | — |
| Total Est. Indirect Costs | $13,306/semester | $1,261 | $1,000 |
Living expenses will vary significantly during different phases of the program and according to student preference. During the clinical year, expect an increase in out-of-pocket expenses for travel to and from clinical sites, and, if necessary, local housing.
Additional Information
For accepted students, a nonrefundable $2,000 deposit fee will be levied and applied to tuition upon matriculation.
Following admission, successful completion of a criminal background check and drug testing will be required via CastleBranch (at students’ expense) for participation in clinical practicum courses. Certain clinical sites may require an updated criminal background check and drug screen (at students’ expense). Health records are submitted and stored via CastleBranch (at students’ expense). Failure to pass one of these tests may prevent the student from successfully completing the clinical practicum requirements and, therefore the program. In addition, before a student begins a program of study, it should be noted that a conviction of either a felony or misdemeanor (other than parking/speeding violations) is considered part of the eligibility for the National Certification Examination (“Ethical Concerns”) and may result in denial of licensure as a nurse practitioner in Virginia (and other states) required to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
All students are required to carry health insurance for the duration of their program. Students are not required to enroll in the MDCHS student health insurance plan, as long as they provide proof of active/comparable insurance through a hard waiver process. Students enrolled in the Nurse Anesthesiology Program are required to carry medical malpractice insurance while enrolled in clinical praticum courses.
