Associate Director, Program for the Exceptionally Gifted
Overview:
Mary Baldwin University invites applications for a full-time Associate Director for the Program for the Exceptionally Gifted. Established in 1842, Mary Baldwin is a liberal arts institution that includes a residential college of 800 students in addition to non-residential adult and graduate programs. The Program for the Exceptionally Gifted, founded in 1985, serves young residential women who may enter the university as young as twelve years old. The Program is a unique, signature program for MBU and garners national attention as a bold innovation in educational acceleration. The Associate Director works collaboratively with the Program Director to support these exceptional students.
Position Summary:
The Associate Director supervises and coordinates the residential component of the Program for the Exceptionally Gifted. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Engagement, this staff member provides the primary student support during weekday daytime hours. The PEG Associate Director represents the program’s needs, mission, philosophy, and policies to both internal and external populations and interacts and collaborates with all university offices including staff, students, and faculty, with parents, and with other institutions as appropriate. Through supervision, programming, social and emotional support, and other general duties, the Associate Director is an important link for PEG students and helps fulfill the PEG mission of providing a safe, supportive and nurturing residential setting. Expectations include close work with resident assistants, tutors, and other student support staff; strong communication skills and comfort working with parents; planning for events, enrichment and social opportunities for students, and collaboration with various offices on campus in response to student needs (BIT/CARE, health and wellness, etc).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required in gifted education or related field (psychology, counseling, social work, secondary education or special education preferred)
- A minimum of five years of full-time experience working with adolescent females is required
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work as a team member and with various constituencies
- Ability to make appropriate decisions in emergency situations; flexibility
