Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Faculty (Full- or Part – Time; Assistant/Associate Professor)

Position Summary:

Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences at Mary Baldwin University invites applications for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Faculty position with an anticipated start date of January 2027.

This is a 12-month, full- or part-time faculty appointment in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program within the School of Nursing at Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences. The faculty member teaches didactic, simulation, and clinical courses in the graduate PMHNP curriculum; advises and mentors students; and contributes to curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement.

Teaching may include online, hybrid, and in-person instruction, including required on-campus learning experiences. Responsibilities and service expectations are adjusted proportionately to the faculty member’s contracted effort.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate degree in nursing from an institutionally accredited institution and an accredited nursing program.
• Current national certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner across the lifespan (PMHNP-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
• Current, unencumbered RN and APRN licensure with prescriptive authority in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or eligibility to obtain required Virginia licensure before the appointment begins.
• Current clinical competence and recent practice experience as a PMHNP; a minimum of three years of PMHNP clinical practice is preferred.
• Ability to teach graduate psychiatric mental health nursing content and evaluate student performance in didactic and clinical settings.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to advise and mentor a diverse graduate student population.
• Ability to use—or willingness to learn—online and hybrid instructional technologies, including a learning management system, videoconferencing, and virtual learning tools.
• Doctoral degree: An earned DNP, PhD in Nursing, or related doctoral degree is preferred and may be required for appointment at certain ranks. Candidates with an MSN and
• substantial PMHNP clinical expertise may be considered consistent with university faculty qualification requirements.
• National certification: Current ANCC certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner across the lifespan (PMHNP-BC).
• Licensure: Active, unencumbered RN and APRN licensure with prescriptive authority in Virginia, or eligibility to obtain such licensure.
• Clinical experience: Current clinical competence and recent PMHNP practice experience; at least three years of PMHNP practice is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral preparation in nursing or a closely related field.
• Graduate-level teaching experience, particularly in a PMHNP or other advanced practice nursing program.
• Experience with online and hybrid course delivery, learning management systems, instructional technology, and virtual or simulation-based learning.
• Experience with curriculum development, student assessment, clinical education, program evaluation, accreditation, or continuous quality improvement.
• Formal preparation or professional development in teaching, curriculum design, simulation, clinical precepting, or nursing education.
• Experience providing psychiatric mental health care to diverse or underserved populations and working within interprofessional care teams.
