Indirect Costs

Students should also anticipate additional indirect costs such as books, supplies, travel, recreation, and personal items. These expenses are not billed by MBU but are considered when determining financial aid awards.

Estimates for these expenses are included below but vary from student to student:

Books and Supplies:$450
Transportation: $565
Personal Expenses:$865
Loan Fees (if federal loans are borrowed):$110
Off-Campus Living Expense$8,000 (fall and spring)
$5,480 (summer, if enrolled)
Total Estimated Indirect Costs:$9,990 (fall or spring)
$7,830 (summer)

* Please note, the tuition includes program and university fees (technology fee, credentialing fee, simulation lab supplies fee, malpractice insurance, AANA associate membership, Typhon fee, and review course/materials). Tuition fees are set annually and may be subject to change. Costs are based on full-time status (9 or more credits per semester). To be eligible for federal financial aid, students must be enrolled in 4.5 credit hours per semester.

For accepted students, a nonrefundable $2,000 deposit fee will be levied and applied to tuition upon matriculation.

Following admission, successful completion of a criminal background check and drug testing will be required via CastleBranch (at students’ expense) for participation in clinical practicum courses. Certain clinical sites may require an updated criminal background check and drug screen (at students’ expense). Health records are submitted and stored via CastleBranch (at students’ expense). Failure to pass one of these tests may prevent the student from successfully completing the clinical practicum requirements and, therefore the program. In addition, before a student begins a program of study, it should be noted that a conviction of either a felony or misdemeanor (other than parking/speeding violations) is considered part of the eligibility for the National Certification Examination (“Ethical Concerns”) and may result in denial of licensure as a nurse practitioner in Virginia (and other states) required to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Living expenses will vary significantly during different phases of the program and according to students preference. During the clinical praticum phase of the program, expect an increase in out-of-pocket expenses for travel to and from clinical sites, and, if necessary, local housing.

All students are required to carry health insurance for the duration of their program. Students are not required to enroll in the MDCHS student health insurance plan, as long as they provide proof of active/comparable insurance through a hard waiver process. Students enrolled in the Nurse Anesthesiology Program are required to carry medical malpractice insurance while enrolled in clinical praticum courses.
