Reuniting the Classes of 3’s and 8’s

Months of planning are over. The details are set. Reunion 2013 is scheduled to begin next week, with close to 300 alumnae/i from class years ending in threes and eights planning a return to campus to celebrate milestones and renew ties with friends and classmates.

“Reunion at Mary Baldwin University is always a special time, and this year is no exception. We have some wonderful events planned to help alumnae/i celebrate and reconnect,” said Liz Jennings Shupe ’70, director of alumnae/i and parent relations.

The festivities begin April 11 with activities dedicated to the Class of 1963 in honor of its 50th Reunion. On April 13 there will be a morning walk on campus in memory of longtime Mary Baldwin administrator Brenda Bryant, who passed away last summer. The traditional “State of the College” address will highlight remarks from Mary Baldwin President Pamela Fox and celebrate the accomplishments of eight alumnae. An afternoon ceremony at the Mary Baldwin tennis courts will recognize Lois Blackburn, a standout former tennis coach, followed by a Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership parade.

In a fun twist on the annual Reunion class dinners, this year organizers are combining the event for a joint class dinner and dance featuring the theme “Country, Soul, Rock & Roll.”

“While seated with their own class members, alums will also have the opportunity to share experiences from their days on campus with alumnae/i spanning 45 years,” Shupe said.
