It’s one of the best days on the Mary Baldwin University campus: classes are canceled; dozens of students pitch in to help others; and dishes for a festive brunch simmer, bake, and braise in the Hunt kitchen.
Apple Day will be held on October 6, and, like in recent years, the celebration bridges decades-old tradition with the sensibilities of a modern student body.
According to Director of Student Activities Erin Paschal, apple gleaning will take place again this year at Woodbine Farm in Strasburg, with buses loading at 7:30 a.m. from the Student Activities Center (SAC) parking lot. For those who want to stay closer to campus, there will be community service opportunities at the Valley Mission and the Staunton Senior Center. The annual Apple Day Carnival will be held from 2–5 p.m. in the SAC parking lot.
Brunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. See menu below.
The community is encouraged to share images and video from the day on Instagram using #appleday. The Office of Communication, Marketing, and Public Affairs will give two prizes — one for critics’ choice, from the graphic design team, and one for the people’s choice, for the image with the most likes on social media.
