Marketing Exec to Deliver Annual Smyth Business Lecture

Mary Baldwin University will host marketing executive Janet Driscoll Miller as the 2017 Smyth Business Lecturer at 6:30 p.m. on March 28. Miller brings more than 15 years of search engine marketing experience as president and CEO of Marketing Mojo, and is considered a leading expert in her field.

MBU’s Smyth Business Program began in 1997, thanks in part to Trustee H. Gordon Smyth and his wife Mary Beth Reed Smyth ’47. The program provides funding to bring regional and national business leaders to campus for public lectures and visits to the classroom along with sending students to visit leaders at their organizations.

According to their website, Marketing Mojo provides digital marketing services focused on improving demand and lead generation, which translates to driving more qualified traffic to websites and turning those visitors into sales-qualified leads and buyers.

Miller has spoken at search engine and marketing conferences including SMX Advanced, Search Engine Strategies, MarketingProfs B2B, and Pubcon; she has also published articles in B2B and Visibility magazines and others, and contributes to several blogs, including her company blog and Search Engine Land.

The business leader is also a frequent guest lecturer at colleges and universities including the University of Virginia and James Madison University.

Prior to founding Marketing Mojo (then Search Mojo) in 2005, Miller was the director of internet marketing at WebSurveyor Corporation, an online survey company. Before WebSurveyor, she was the founder of Empower Marketing, Inc., an interactive marketing firm based in Denver.

Miller also served as the senior marketing communications manager at Software AG, where she coordinated advertising, interactive marketing, events, and branding efforts. She has held marketing positions at Call Technologies and Telos Corporation and is also a certified Google Analytics Individual.

Miller graduated from James Madison University with a degree in communications and graphic arts. Although dedicated to her work, Miller uses her limited spare time outside of the business to run marathons and triathlons.

The lecture, to be held in Francis Auditorium, is free and open to the public.
