Returning to the Court

Mary Baldwin University honored all-time leading scorer Jessica Carter ’08 in the Physical Activities Center on Jan. 25 prior to the Fighting Squirrel’s contest against Pfeiffer University.

Carter amassed 1,943 points in her four-year career as a Fighting Squirrel. She was awarded her framed jersey and a commemorative basketball. President Pamela Fox and head women’s basketball coach Ross James presented the items to Carter before she took a moment to say a few words to a packed crowd.

In addition to claiming the top spot on the all-time scoring list at MBU, Carter earned first team All-USA South honors as a senior – the first year Mary Baldwin competed in the conference. She was named to the USA South 50th Anniversary Team in 2014 after playing just one season in the league as a part of a quartet of Fighting Squirrels to earn a place on the team.

Following the pregame ceremony, all alumnae members of the women’s basketball team were asked to take the court to be recognized for their contributions to MBU and the program. The university hosted a post-game reception downtown at MBU at The Wharf.
