Zhu Wang, considered one of the most sough-after pianists of his generation, performs at MBU’s Francis Auditorium on Monday, November 10.

The Mary Baldwin University Music Department is excited to announce this season’s opening Broman Concert, featuring the brilliant young pianist Zhu Wang. He will take the stage on Monday, November 10 at 7:30 pm in Francis Auditorium on the Mary Baldwin campus.
Considered one of the most sought-after pianists of his generation, Zhu Wang has been praised as “especially impressive” and “a thoughtful, sensitive performer” who “balanced lyrical warmth and crisp clarity” (Tommasini, The New York Times). A winner of numerous international competitions, Wang won the Gold Medal at the 2024 New Orleans International Piano Competition and was also a First-Prize Winner at the 2020 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Celebrated for his “technical mastery and deep sense of lyricism,” (The Durango Herald), he has appeared in recital at prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater, The Morgan Library & Museum, Salon de Virtuosi, Ridotto Classical Concerts, and Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, a performance which made The New York Times “Best of Classical Music 2021” list.
Wang has chosen an exciting program for November 10. He will treat the audience to Beethoven’s gorgeous Sonata in A-Flat Major, op. 110, one of the composer’s late works that is a favorite among pianists and listeners alike. Also on the program are the fiendishly difficult Three Etudes of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, along with Claude Debussy’s delicate and mysterious Cloches à travers les feuilles (“Bells through the leaves”). Zhu will close the program with Robert Schumann’s beautiful Humoreske, op. 20.
“We are thrilled to bring the extraordinary pianist Zhu Wang to Mary Baldwin,” says Dr. Lise Keiter, Chair of the MBU Music Department. “Not only is he an incredibly accomplished artist, with dazzling technique and deep musical understanding, but he brings an obvious love for the music to every performance. You will not want to miss this concert!”
Tickets for the Zhu Wang concert (November 10) are still available; audiences are encouraged to purchase tickets online as soon as possible. Tickets are $25 for the General Public, $20 for Seniors, $5 for Non-MBU students, and free for children 12 and under. (Mary Baldwin students, faculty, and staff also receive free admission.)
