Dr. Letz graduated from Virginia Tech and went on to pursue her Masters in Reading from UVA. She received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. Her doctoral research focused on the importance of children’s oral language development as the foundation for their reading success. Prior to becoming a Professor of Literacy, Dr. Letz enjoyed teaching for 25 years. She spent 16 of those years as a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach. She is currently researching writing as it pertains to comprehension in not only reading, but across content areas. When she is not working, she loves spending time with her family, gardening, and writing.
