Minor Requirements
Creative Writing minor course requirements include a mix of core and elective courses.
Provides exercises in the basic elements of poetry and fiction writing, including meter, metaphor, character development, and plotting.
Explores the literary and historical development of literature for children and young adults through selected authors and genres, both classic and contemporary. Analyzes literary elements, discusses cultural and educational issues within the genre, and considers the development of the concept of childhood and literacy in a variety of contexts.
Teaches the theory and practice of screenwriting, including concept, research, writing, revisions, and presentation. Analyzes successful scripts and films to discover appropriate styles and methods of writing. Employs workshop development of scripts to emphasize dramatic narrative for television and film.
