LGBTQIA+ Community & Resources

At Mary Baldwin, you’ll find a welcoming and inclusive LGBTQIA+ community that offers a variety of resources to support you. From mentorship to advocacy, we’re committed to fostering a safe, empowering environment where you can connect, grow, and fully express yourself.

Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA)

The GSA is a student-run campus club. The GSA provides a safe, accepting, and confidential meeting place for LGBTQIA+ students.

The club provides a balance of educational, community, and social meetings and events for the LGBTQIA+ community on campus.

Historically, LGBTQ+ people have been marginalized, their voices silenced, and their presence hidden. Having this space and a dedicated person to support this work sends a strong message: our campus values and supports LGBTQ+ students.

Lavender Graduation Ceremony

Each year, the Lavender Graduation celebrates LGBTQIA+ graduating students. It’s a time to celebrate individual achievements while fostering a greater sense of pride and empowerment for the community.

Local Resources

The Staunton community is home to great organizations dedicated to supporting, connecting, and celebrating LGBTQIA+ individuals, several within walking distance of campus.

Safe Zone is a national initiative to visibly identify faculty, staff, and students who support the LGBTQIA+ community. Individuals displaying the Safe Zone decal vow to be respectful listeners, provide a safe, friendly, non-judgmental space, maintain confidentiality, and refer others to resources.
