MBU Marching Band
The MBU Marching Band is a spirited ensemble of about 30 undergraduate musicians. Together we combine the sounds of wind, brass, and percussion for powerful, crowd-lifting performances.

Performance, Community, Pride
At MBU, marching together means growing together — in music,
friendship, and purpose.
What We Do
The MBU Marching Band is proud to represent Mary Baldwin at sporting events, concerts, parades, and ceremonies — on campus and beyond.
Parades and Ceremonies
Our members showcase their talents through monthly campus parades, military honor ceremonies, and a signature spring parade in Baltimore, MD each March.
Joint-Ensemble Concerts
While our band is predominantly a marching band, they also perform as a concert band for a fall and spring concert each year alongside the MBU Jazz Band and Choir.

Our MBU mighty band brings the heartbeat to our parades once a month on campus, downtown, and [in our yearly] parades in Baltimore, MD and Washington D.C.

Class, Camp, & Camaraderie
Being part of the marching band at MBU means more than performing. It’s about showing up, learning together, and building lasting relationships.
All marching band students must enroll in MUS 107: Marching Band. This course, available both fall and spring semesters, serves as a weekly rehearsal for students.
The class takes place for only one hour every Tuesday evening, allowing students to balance their musical pursuits with other academic and co-curricular activities.
Band camp kicks off with two half-day sessions prior to MBU Orientation. The camp allows new and returning members to bond, learn musical and marching techniques, and prepare for upcoming performances.
Members will receive priority move-in schedules to accommodate band camp attendance.
Each semester, the band hosts a casual social mixer — a chance to relax, celebrate, and strengthen bonds with fellow musicians and cadets.

Proudly Partnered with VWIL
The MBU Marching Band plays a significant role in promoting and inspiring the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) cadet corps.
Together, we participate in parades, honor ceremonies, and special celebrations, showcasing the university and fostering goodwill within the Staunton, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, MD communities.
