Veterans & Family Members
MBU offers strong support for veterans seeking to maximize their education benefits—and for spouses or children to whom benefits have been transferred.

Students Entering Military Service
MBU’s co-ed ROTC and Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership, the nation’s only all-female corps of cadets, provide training for students commissioning into the U.S. military.
GI Bill® Benefits
Since 1944, the GI Bill® has helped qualifying veterans and their family members fund their education. MBU is proud to support you as you pursue your goals for the future.
MBU is approved to offer GI Bill® educational benefits by the Virginia State Approving Agency.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers step-by-step guides on:
If you applied for and were awarded Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits, you can check your statement of benefits to see your current benefits amount.
- For those who have unused Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits, find out if you can transfer your benefits to your spouse or dependent children.
- You can also learn how VA benefits can help cover costs of the CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) exam and other national tests that can help you earn college credit.
Complete a Request for Benefits form and send it to vabenefits@marybaldwin.edu for each semester that you would like to use your benefit.
A degree audit must be sent with the request for benefits form if you’re an undergraduate student.
If at any time you drop/add a course at MBU, email vabenefits@marybaldwin.edu so that the university can make sure your certification is up to date and you’re being paid the correct amount.
The GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Visit the official U.S. government website of the VA here.
Yellow Ribbon Program
MBU is a participating institution in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which can help you pay for higher out-of-state, private school, or graduate school tuition and fees that the Post-9/11 GI Bill® doesn’t cover.

MBU Military Veterans & Dependents Scholarship
Undergraduate residential and commuter students who are veterans (or spouses or dependents of veterans) of the U.S. military will receive a renewable $1,000 award. Eligibility is verified by the student providing a DD-214 of their military service, or their parent/spouse’s military service, with honorable discharge.
Transfer Credit Evaluation
Find out how you can count your military training and other course credit towards an MBU degree.
Request your military transcript for review and evaluation by MBU, and credit will be awarded when it is applicable to your declared program. The university considers the transfer of credit for military training based on official American Council on Education (AC) transcripts on a case-by-case basis.
The Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy offer the Joint Services Transcript (JST), approved by ACE to validate a service member’s military occupational experience and training. The JST will be reviewed and college credit considered based on ACE’s recommendations.
Air Force veterans can contact the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to request a transcript for review and credit consideration.
Transfer credit from other colleges and universities can shorten the time it takes to complete your degree. Complete the following steps for MBU to evaluate your prior learning:
- For MBU to review your previous coursework for transfer credit:
- Prospective students: Submit your official transcripts to the Admissions Office. Students seeking a preliminary transfer credit evaluation prior to applying should also contact the Admissions Office.
- Admitted students: Submit your official transcripts to the Office of the University Registrar.
- Transcripts should always be sent directly from the issuing institution to MBU.
- Approved credits transfer into your MBU program where appropriate.
- You’ll be notified of which credits have been accepted and how they apply to your program.
- For students using VA benefits, MBU reports approved transfer credits directly to the VA.
- Your academic record will show both your transferred coursework and your progress at MBU.
