From the Alumni Association President: Chapter Update

Since the February summit, the Alumni Association Board of Directors has been working to address your ideas and concerns, communicate with all alumni with greater transparency and frequency, and to make quick and significant progress on alumni engagement. In this spirit, the Alumni Board engagement committee wants to update all alumni on the re-formation of Mary Baldwin University alumni chapters.

  • The alumni engagement committee formed a subcommittee for alumni chapters led by Melissa Leecy ’96, Lucia ‘Yogi’ Almendras Carroll ’02, and Mallory Showalter Churning ’08 to research successful chapter programs at like size/context schools in order to construct a framework for a new chapter system.
  • Mary Baldwin currently has three chapters still operating in Staunton, Richmond, and Roanoke, and we will learn from their success and challenges as we seek to form additional chapters and reenergize dormant chapters where there is interest and leadership.

The alumni chapters subcommittee is excited to move forward in this venture and pledges to be quick, but also thorough, so that moving forward together, we create a system that we can sustain, grow, and enjoy for the benefit of all alumni and Mary Baldwin.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming All-Alumni Homecoming, and hope you will attend our informal session on alumni chapters on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. in the University Café.
