Remembering Sue Armstrong

Sue Armstrong, accounts payable administrator in the MBU Business Office, passed away on June 12 after a long illness. During her 18 years at Mary Baldwin, Armstrong served the campus community with dedication, a keen numerical mind, and kindness.

Faculty and staff addressed her name frequently on campus mail envelopes containing an invoice or a credit card reconciliation, and always knew she would take care of things smoothly and efficiently. Patient and knowledgeable, Armstrong worked hard to make others’ working lives a little bit easier every day.

Armstrong also greatly contributed to MBU’s student-centered mission, serving as accounting advisor for all student-run organizations, enabling them to create events, initiatives, and service projects that enrich the campus and local communities.

“Sue was not only a valued team member, but also a great friend and a kind and gentle person,” said Jessie Moyers, associate vice president for finance and accounting, who worked with Sue for the past 13 years. “She was quick to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, and consistently had a smile on her face. I will surely miss her.”

Memorials may be directed to the building fund or women’s ministry fund for the Jerusalem Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church in Churchville. Armstrong’s full obituary has more details.
