MBU Family Pride

Commencement is always a special time at Mary Baldwin, and the Facilities Management team goes above and beyond to make sure campus looks its best for graduating seniors and their families. This year, three staff members in housekeeping and maintenance celebrated not only the end of the school year, but also a milestone in their children’s lives.

Jackie Payne, in housekeeping at MBU, congratulates daughter Angie Via, who earned her master of arts in teaching. Via also received her bachelor’s from MBU in 2003 as part of the Program for the Exceptionally Gifted, and her mom started working at Mary Baldwin in 1999 to be close to her daughter.

“Words can’t express the way I feel with all of Angie’s accomplishments. She makes me so proud to be her mom. Angie is my only child, and in my eyes (and heart) she’s the BEST!”

Andrew Todd Collier, with 13 years of service as a painter and maintenance technician at MBU, celebrates Commencement with daughter Summer Collier, who graduated with a bachelor’s in English this May. Up next for Collier is earning her TESOL certification with plans to teach abroad.

“I feel great that she’s graduated and glad that she decided to go to MBU.”
