Join the MBU community for a performance by soprano Jessica Foy Long and pianist Marie Masincup.
The Sunday Recital Series at Mary Baldwin University continues on Sunday, April 19 at 3 pm, with a performance by soprano Jessica Foy Long and pianist Marie Masincup. The recital will take place in Francis Auditorium on the Mary Baldwin University campus.
Jessica Foy Long and Marie Masincup will treat the audience to a varied program of art song, opera, and musical theatre. The program, titled “Songs of Separation,” includes well-known favorites such as Schubert’s moving “Gretchen am Spinnrade” and “Als Luise die Briefe” by Mozart, along with arias from Puccini’s La Bohème and Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. They will also perform selections from the musicals The Last Five Years and The Color Purple, along with familiar songs such as “Cry Me a River” and “Stormy Weather.” There is truly something for everyone on this program!
Soprano Jessica Foy Long teaches voice and serves as the Vocal Area Coordinator in the Mary Baldwin University Music Department. An active performer, she has been a featured soloist in works such as Palmeri’s Misa a Buenos Aires, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Handel’s Messiah. Her operatic experience includes dramatic roles such as Dido in Dido and Aeneas and the title role in Suor Angelica. She is also active in Musical Theatre and has appeared in The Prince of Egypt, Pirates of Penzance, Sweeney Todd, and Rapunzarella White. Originally from New Orleans, Dr. Long holds degrees from Northwestern State University (B.M. and M.M.) and Shenandoah University Conservatory (D.M.A.).
Pianist Marie Masincup has been active in the community in various musical roles for many years. She has taught music at Grace Christian School and James Madison University, and she currently serves as a collaborative pianist in the Mary Baldwin University Music Department. She is also the organist at Loch Willow Presbyterian Church and continues to teach piano at Grace Christian School, and she has served as pianist for several local choirs and theatre productions.
Single tickets for the April 19 Sunday Recital may be purchased online or at the door and are $5 for the General Public and $4 for students and seniors, and free for children 12 and under.
