Why Pursue an Elementary Education MEd at MBU?

The first years of a child’s education are the most formative. The impact of elementary educators is key in shaping a young person’s future. That’s why MBU pairs you with faculty and teaching partners who are practicing educators, teaching you inquiry-based practices and student-centered techniques. You’ll graduate with a firm grasp of the skills and techniques needed to reach every child in your classroom.

Flexibility & Convenience

With all courses available online, you can complete coursework on your schedule and practicums in any accredited classroom. Whether you’re shifting your teaching focus or looking for an additional endorsement, the Elementary Education program at MBU rewards your time and efforts.

MEd students don’t need to be Virginia residents to seek licensure—they can complete practicums and student-teaching in any accredited school. However, all activities, competencies, and Standards of Learning that are addressed in each experience must apply to Commonwealth of Virginia guidelines.

Teacher Education Program

Students accepted to the MEd program are automatically enrolled in MBU’s Teacher Education Program (TEP). Upon completion of their degree program and TEP requirements, Virginia-licensed MEd students will be prepared to obtain an additional teaching endorsement by Commonwealth of Virginia standards.

Our program emphasizes personalized paths to meet individual goals while modeling and encouraging inquiry and reflection, integrating theory and practice, and providing opportunities for exploration and innovation within a collaborative environment.
