PT Frequently Asked Questions

• Human or Vertebrate Anatomy* – 3-4 credit hours; lab required
• Human or Vertebrate Physiology* – 3-4 credit hours; lab required
• Biology – 3 credit hours; at least one course; upper-level biology courses such as cell biology or histology are recommended, but not required
• Chemistry – 8 credit hours; must include labs
• Physics – 8 credit hours; general physics; must include labs
• Psychology – 3 credit hours; psychology course(s)
• Statistics – 3 credit hours; can be from biology, mathematics, psychology, or business; NOTE: if a psychology course is used to meet this requirement, it cannot also be used for the psychology requirement

*Can be combined for Audit/Pass; recommended but not required to be within last 5 years prior to matriculation

Note: Prerequisite coursework may be completed during the admission cycle. Please add planned courses in PTCAS transcript section.  Final official transcripts must be received by Murphy Deming by July 15.

A minimum overall 3.0 GPA is preferred, but we expect most accepted students will surpass this. In addition, all prerequisite courses must reflect a “C” or better to be accepted.

The GRE scores will be considered along with other admissions requirements. There is no minimum GRE score required to apply.

This will vary depending on the number of applications each year. We have a maximum proposed class of 35 students.

One reference must be from a physical therapist. Other references can be professionals who have observed you in a patient care environment, college professors, or prior employers. References from family members or friends are not recommended.

Graduate programs in health sciences may allow up to six (6) graduate-level transfer credits with prior program director approval. Prior courses may be used to meet prerequisite requirements. There is no waiver of coursework or advanced standing granted in any program.

Due to our current accreditation status, we are not able to sponsor visas for international students at this time. Students who are U.S. Citizens,  Permanent Residents or F1 Visa holders are eligible to apply. The MDCHS does consider coursework completed internationally, as long as the proper transcript evaluations (such as WES) are included with the application.

Yes, Mary Baldwin University is coeducational for all of its graduate, undergraduate, and online degree programs.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program is rigorous. Students can expect a full-time commitment to professional studies. If students choose to work, they are advised to select flexible, part-time employment options. Limited opportunities are available for selected students to work as tutors during their second year in the program assisting first-year students with coursework.
