PT Mission, Vision, and Program Goals
The mission of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program is to prepare individuals to be compassionate and ethical entry-level physical therapists who optimize movement by utilizing critical thinking skills and evidence-based knowledge for decision-making. Students, graduates, and faculty demonstrate strong interprofessional collaboration for patient-centered care that enhances function and promotes a healthy society. Graduates will be lifelong learners who utilize contemporary practice models in a variety of practice settings across the lifespan.

In realizing its mission, the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences is committed to serving the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and beyond by:

Program
Goals
Goal 1
The DPT program will provide the appropriate learning opportunities for students to acquire the theoretical knowledge, applicable skills, and attitudes necessary to function as an entry-level post-baccalaureate physical therapist (DPT).
Goal 2
The DPT program will instill in students a commitment to the core values and ethics of the physical therapy profession.
Goal 3
The DPT program will model the integrative, interdisciplinary, and collaborative practice across all physical therapy practice settings.
Goal 4
The DPT program will provide a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, clinical reasoning, reflection, and self-assessment for personal and professional growth with a commitment to life-long learning.
Goal 5
The DPT program will provide opportunities for the student to contribute positively to the health of the regional community through service, research, and clinical practice.
Goal 6
The DPT program will provide an environment that supports students in obtaining the knowledge and skills for understanding and applying current and emerging evidence to clinical practice, as well as participate in and utilize research to advance the scholarship of the profession.
