The Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement is responsible for fundraising, alumni engagement and cultivating relationships across the public and private sectors. The division creates philanthropic opportunities that support student success, research excellence, and strategic growth while also maintaining strong ties with alumni. The Office of Alumni Engagement drives all aspects of alumni engagement strategy designed to increase connections, participation, and philanthropic support for the institution’s over 21,600 alumni worldwide.
The division seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and solution-oriented individual to serve as Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Development and Alumni Engagement.
Overview of the Position
The Assistant/Associate Director of Annual Giving will execute the strategy for annual appeal solicitations for each fiscal year cycle. The Assistant/Associate Director will manage all aspects of appeal creation from segmentation strategy and messaging, content creation, to stewardship and pipeline moves management. The annual appeal cycle creates a consistent and timely mechanism to convey important institutional updates and priorities with a pathway for philanthropic engagement and renewal throughout each year. Additionally, the Assistant/Associate Director will assist in developing strategy with advancement leadership and execute the vision for the annual Day of Giving. Responsibilities include:
- Develop and manage an annual strategic plan for the Annual Giving Program that aligns with the Made for All Time comprehensive campaign case, the five-year strategic plan Elevate MBU, and other university fundraising priorities in consultation with the Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement and the Vice President for University Advancement.
- Develop a unique solicitation strategy for appeal in the annual cycle (fall appeal, Giving Tuesday, Calendar Year End, IRA/QCD, Day of Giving, Fiscal Year End, etc.) with custom content and messaging that acquires, retains, and renews donors throughout the year.
- Manage a multi-channel solicitation strategy for each appeal, including but not limited to, project-based or custom giving forms, segmented projects within the appeal by constituency type or affiliation, email journeys, social media, phone, and direct mail.
- Serve as thought leader for the annual Day of Giving campaign
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to manage the designing, printing, audience segmentation, and sending of mail, e-mail, and social components of the Annual Giving Program strategy.
- Report the effectiveness of the Annual Giving Program strategy throughout the year with regular analysis, develop new strategies as needed to achieve goals.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the Advancement Team to execute division-wide annual goals and initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum 3-5 years working in fundraising
- Demonstrated experience in managing annual giving projects
- Experience in digital fundraising, crowdfunding, text to give
- Effective communicator-able to present and articulate work to various audiences and stakeholders
- Experience with fundraising program creation and execution
- An eye for synergistic opportunities across our division and university with the ability to connect strategies
- Desire to create and execute a program on a small team at a small institution
- Experience working with vendors and fulfillment partners for design, print, and mail
- Strong project management skills; proven ability to manage overlapping project timelines
Status

- Title Commensurate with experience
- Salaried ($65,000 – $75,000/annually; commensurate with experience)
