Assistant Professor – Physician Assistant Program

Mary Baldwin University/Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences seeks a 12-month, full-time didactic faculty member in the Master of Science PA program to join us as we educate the next generation of great healthcare providers. You will be part of the didactic family in our dedicated health sciences building . MDCHS is also home to physical therapy, occupational therapy, and graduate nursing programs. And we are proud of our interprofessional education. MDCHS is in Fis hersvi lle, Virginia, in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley . We are 15 minutes from the Shenandoah National Park and Blue Ridge Park way. In 2020 we were accredited by ARC-PA for 10-years. We enroll a cohort of 40 students every January with graduation 27 months later. We hope that a passionate PA educator will join us as we continue to grow, teach, and inspire the next generation of PAs .

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. NCCPA-certified physician assistant with a minimum of a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies, or a related discipline such as a Certified Nurse Practitioner or physician.
  2. Licensed or eligible for license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  3. Minimum of 2 years clinical practice experience.
  4. For Nurse Practitioner and physician applicants – experience in graduate level teaching.
  5. Strong collaborative, organizational, and communication skills.
  6. Strong commitment to achieve the missions of the PA program and MDCHS. 

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching – faculty course director, primary instructor, or assistant instructor for courses as assigned. This will depend upon the applicant’s clinical experience, strengths, desires, and the program’s needs. This will include preparing syllabi, identifying objectives and learning outcomes, and synchronizing material with other faculty and with the ARC-PA Standards. Assist with clinical practice labs, simulation, and small group sessions. Assist with student tutorial/remediation planning and sessions.
  2. Advising students – meet with assigned advisees to assist progress through the program. This includes personal wellbeing, academic performance, and professional development.
  3. Service to the college and university – Coordinate community service projects for didactic phase students. Work with admissions to aid in the recruitment process. Attend and participate in PA Program meetings. Attend and participate in college and university assigned committees. Work with other PA Program faculty on community service projects.
