Director for Leadership Development
The Director for Leadership Development (DLD) is responsible for the cadets’ academic progress toward their leadership studies minor and Advanced Leadership Certificate and development of their professional skills and career goals. The Director Leadership Development reports to the Commandant. The position is essential in the development of our Nation’s future civilian and military leaders. The DLD provides direct daily leadership and oversight to over 100 full-time VWIL and ROTC cadets. The DLD is our liaison with MBU’s first-year advisors and cadets with undeclared majors, as well as ROTC instructors as cadets progress toward commissioning. The DLD oversees essential components of the cadet program, including the Citizen Leader Program, Leadership Challenge Program, Wilderness Adventure, and Advanced Fitness. The DLD also coordinates with international cadets from India and South Korea visiting MBU and encouraging MBU cadets to study abroad. The DLD assists the Commandant and Director of Operations in maintaining an environment in which students can balance full participation in the Corps with meaningful engagement within the university, through athletics, student government, civic engagement, and other activities. Within a 40-hour week, weekend/evening hours are expected to support cadet activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Military service culminating as a field grade officer (O3-O5) or non-commissioned officer (E4-E6)
- Supervisor experience
- Administrative/managerial/logistic experience
- Experience and training in leadership development programs for young adults in both military and civilian
- High standards of performance, impeccable judgment, and character beyond reproach
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence, developing women leaders in particular
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, strong management, and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and counseling skills, ability to work collaboratively and to foster teamwork
Preferences:
- Master’s degree
- Recent military experience (last 5 years)
- Experience as an instructor
- Training in a higher education environment
- Physically fit, due to the physical fitness emphasis of this leader development program
- Thorough knowledge of protocol in both military and civilian settings
