‘I Will Continue to Press on’: MBU Online Student Shares Her Story

MBU Online students faced many challenges during the fall semester as the pandemic upended workplaces and schools. Often juggling their education with careers and caring for family, online students showed great fortitude through tumultuous times and moved ahead with their educational goals.

One such student is Simone Foxx, who is pursuing her undergraduate degree through MBU Online with a major in health sciences while working as licensed service assistant for Oasis Insurance & Retirement Services and raising her daughter. During her free time, Foxx can often be found spending time with family, playing the piano, baking, and enjoying the outdoors.

Foxx was able to find a sense of purpose in her courses through the difficult days of the pandemic. Read her story below.

MBU Online – My Story

By Simone Foxx

I think it’s safe to say this pandemic has had an impact on the majority of us — whether it be physically, emotionally, or mentally. Some have experienced financial burdens, stress assisting children learning virtually, sickness, and even the death of loved ones.

It certainly has not been an easy journey these past few months. A lot of people are worried about what the future holds. Will we ever return to the normal lives we used to live? These uncertain times make it hard to predict what will truly happen.

My friends and family have all asked how I have been able to adjust during this pandemic. Well, let me share with you how.

In June of this year, I had decided that I would continue my bachelor’s degree with MBU Online, and in my opinion it was the perfect timing to do so. When my company allowed me to work from home and my daughter’s academy closed, I realized that I had more time on my hands to finish my degree.

I contacted the MBU Office of Admissions and quickly began the process so that I would be ready for fall registration. The support I have received from the staff, advisors, and professors has been exceptional, and I would not trade it for the world.

As I wrap up this fall semester, I am filled with gratitude and appreciation to the staff and professors who have assisted me along the way. MBU Online is one of the best decisions I have made.

I know it is not the traditional classroom setting that most are used to. However, you will see that in this online program the professors and advisors do not hesitate to go the extra mile.

They record online presentations and lectures that make you feel as though you are learning right in the classroom. The courses are very engaging, and my professors have been great with sending out notifications through Canvas (our learning management system) regarding any updates as well as responding to all emails.

My MBU Online first semester success advisor has been extremely helpful, meeting virtually to discuss any needs regarding my courses and my academic plan.

I think we all can say we don’t like the time we are living in. But as Maya Angelou said, “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” And that is what I have done. I have focused all my time and energy into this degree, and what better place to do so than with MBU Online.

This is a new time for us, as we continue to experience this global pandemic. Some might say that it has been extremely tough. One quote that pushes me forward each day is “Tough times never last; tough people do.” I will continue to press on and knowing that I have the support of my MBU family makes this journey truly worthwhile.
