Mary Baldwin University has partnered with TimelyCare, higher education’s most trusted virtual health and well-being provider, to offer all students free, 24/7 access to mental health support.
Serving more than two million students at 300 campuses nationwide, TimelyCare provides a comprehensive suite of services, including mental health counseling, on-demand emotional support, a peer support community, and self-guided wellness tools.
Efficient and equitable access to high-quality care is an important priority for college students nationwide. Among those undergraduates who considered dropping out, 69% cited emotional stress as their reason, according to a recent report by Gallup and the Lumina Foundation. Removing barriers to care leads to more engagement, both academically and socially, and improved student outcomes.
Through TimelyCare on their phone or other device, MBU students can access virtual care options from licensed physicians and counselors in all 50 states — at no cost and without the barrier of traditional insurance — including:
- On-demand mental health and emotional support (TalkNow)
- Appointment-based mental health counseling (up to 12 sessions each academic year)
- Psychiatric support
- Health coaching
- Care navigation
- Peer support community
- Digital self-care content
The partnership extends the MBU Student Counseling Services’ resources, and the university will continue to offer in-person counseling options in addition to TimelyCare.
This hybrid model of care gives students many benefits, such as:
- 24/7 convenience: Students can easily seek support for mental health issues that present themselves outside regular business hours or on weekends.
- Reduced wait times: Students can typically connect with a TimelyCare provider in less than 5 minutes.
- Diverse provider network: TimelyCare offers a diverse and culturally responsive provider network, and students scheduling services can choose to meet with a specific provider or select the first available.
- Safe and secure: TimelyCare is a secure, URAC-accredited, and HIPAA-compliant platform.

Three-quarters of college students who accessed virtual mental health and well-being interventions through TimelyCare reported mental health improvements. More than half (53%) of all students who have sought mental health support through TimelyCare said they would have done nothing if the service were not available.
