Caitlin Powers is a Virginia transplant, originally from Rhode Island, moving to the area after earning her Master of Physician Assistant studies from JMU in 2016. Prior to this, Professor Powers received her Master of Molecular Biology from East Carolina University, in Greenville, North Carolina.  Go Pirates! Her research focused on identifying expression patterns and potential molecular targets of microRNAs. 

Upon graduation, she joined the Augusta Emergency Physicians group as an Emergency Medicine PA. She has been working in the Augusta Health Emergency Department for the past six years.  Simultaneously, Professor Powers has also acted as an adjunct faculty member for the JMU Biology Department, and the Health Sciences Department, instructing courses on molecular techniques, and infectious disease. 

At Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences, Professor Powers leads the interprofessional course series, and acts as co-instructor in Clinical Medicine and Laboratory and Diagnostic Studies. She is the wellness coordinator for the program, and has helped to integrate the Healer’s Art programming into the physician assistant curriculum. 

Professor Powers lives locally in Augusta County with her husband, child and two rescue dogs. She enjoys spending time outdoors and riding horses. She has two horses, Ron a miniature horse, and Lou, a retired racehorse.
