Statement of Privacy 

Mary Baldwin University (MBU) is committed to protecting the privacy of its students, alumni, donors, faculty/staff and friends. This privacy statement describes the types of personal data we collect and the policies and procedures we have implemented to safeguard it. Should you choose to provide us with any personal information, it will only be used by Mary Baldwin University to conduct official university business. Personal information obtained through the university’s websites will not be disseminated to any unaffiliated third party, except as required by law.

1. Automatically Gathered Information 

Similarly to most institutions on the Internet, Mary Baldwin University tracks users’ web browsing patterns to inform our understanding of how our sites are being used, unless you take steps to browse the Internet anonymously or opt-out. The generic information we collect is based on IP address, which is the location of a computer or network. 
 
This site uses web analytics services that use cookies to help us analyze how users use our sites. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website includes your IP address. This information will be transmitted to and stored by the analytics service provider(s) on their server(s). They will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity and providing other services relating to Internet usage. Mary Baldwin University collects personal information to make our web services customizable for each user. 

MBU will use your information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your information with any third party outside of our organization. As many colleges and universities do, on a limited basis we partner with organizations that help us contact and communicate with prospective students. In these limited cases, the organizations operate on our behalf. We share your information with these organizations but never sell or rent your information. Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email, SMS or MMS text messaging, or phone calls for purposes of furthering your access and pursuit of the educational opportunities available through MBU. Message and data rates may apply. You can STOP messaging by sending STOP and get more help by sending HELP.

For Mary Baldwin faculty, staff, and employees, the university collects basic information in a searchable online people directory to facilitate communication and university operations. Mary Baldwin adheres to FERPA requirements for all personally identifiable information contained in student education records. Please see the university’s FERPA notification page for more information.
 
For Mary Baldwin alumni, there is an option to sign up for Mary Baldwin Alumni Connections, an online alumni directory. Your personal profile information and profile page features information you may wish to share with other alumni site members on “Your Profile” page. Only people who are members of this site can view other members’ Profile Page(s). The only information that is automatically displayed on the profile page through the searchable online directory is your title, first name, nickname, birth name, last name, suffix, country, city, state, class year(s), major, email and selected additional information. Additional information fields from “Your Profile” information, including comments, class notes, and other information you choose to share, along with any photos, will appear only if you have opted to provide those items and have also selected to have those fields visible to others. 
 
We may use the information provided about you to fulfill your requests for our products, programs, and services, or to respond to your inquiries about our offerings. We sometimes use this information to communicate with you, such as to notify you when we make changes to our services/operations, to fulfill a request by you, or to contact you about your account/records with us. We may also use your information for fundraising and research purposes, and/or to update internal systems. We never sell or rent your information.

4. Credit Card Transactions 

Some features of this site enable credit card transactions. These features are completely voluntary to members. They include the purchasing of event registrations, merchandise purchases, online donations, membership purchases or the payment of other types of fees through the site. The operators of this site would like to assure you that measures have been taken to make such transactions secure for its users. 

5. Email and Phone Communication Management 

This site provides you with the opportunity to choose to receive email or phone communications about this site, Mary Baldwin University and its affiliated programs and organizations, as well as emails from other members. In all email and phone communications that you receive from this community, except for confirmation emails for event registrations, purchases, donations or other payments, you will be provided an unsubscribe or opt out option where you can opt out from any particular type of communication categories operated by this site. Phone numbers that we collect and the consent that we received will not be shared with any 3rd parties/affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent. This information will not be shared with any 3rd parties. 

6. Links to Other Sites 

This site contains links to other sites that may not be affiliated with Mary Baldwin University. This site, nor Mary Baldwin University is responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites, including class or program pages or social media accounts not operated/owned/recognized by Mary Baldwin University. 

7. Protection of Your Information 

Mary Baldwin University has put in place appropriate software, hardware and managerial procedures to safeguard and help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data security, and correctly use the information we collect online. 

8. Storage of Personal Information 

Certain student records and gift transaction details must be stored permanently for auditing purposes. Otherwise, we accommodate to the best of our ability all requests to change contact and solicitation preferences.
