Welcome to Mindfulness at MBU
Mindfulness is known as a way to manage stress, but when practiced regularly, it can do much more.
Mindfulness means:
- Paying attention to what is happening in the present without judging it as good or bad.
- Noticing the sounds around you, what you see, how your body feels, and even what you smell or taste.
- Paying attention to your thoughts and emotions—such as when your mind drifts to past events or starts worrying about what might happen next.
Ready to try practicing mindfulness? Explore the resources on this page, contact Dr. Sebolt, or plan to attend an in-person or virtual meditation.

Intro to Mindfulness Course
4-Week MIEA Intro to Mindfulness Course (in-person & online)
The Intro to Mindfulness curriculum is an evidence-based program originally developed at Duke University’s counseling center and validated through a randomized controlled trial (RCT) with university students. Research findings demonstrated that students who completed the program experienced reduced stress, increased mindfulness, improved sleep quality, and decreased self-judgment.
This course introduces you to 10 core mindfulness skills, which you practice daily for at least 10 minutes while reflecting on your experiences in a logbook. Additionally, you will engage in a gratitude practice and select a daily mindful activity to reinforce your learning.
Throughout the program, you will receive structured instruction on mindfulness principles through:
- Four in-person or virtual class meetings facilitated by Dr. Stephanie Sebolt, a MIEA certified mindfulness instructor.
- Reading The Mindful Twenty-Something (available free online from Grafton Library), which serves as a companion text.
- Class discussions for guided support.
Mindfulness training encourages you to step into your stretch zone, where learning and growth occur, while maintaining a trauma-informed, person-centered approach. The program fosters self-reflection, self-trust, and community building, integrating principles of social justice and inclusive education to create an accessible and supportive learning environment.
All faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in the course. Join me for a 4-week Intro to Mindfulness course designed to help you cultivate calm, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being.
NOTE: When registering for the class, you will be prompted to purchase the MIEA App (contains guided meditations, information from each session and lifetime access). This is NOT necessary for the course but you may purchase it if you wish.
