VWIL Cadets Host International Visitors (photos)

Two corps of cadets, both unique in their countries as the only all-women organizations, got together at MBU in early September.

Traveling all the way from Seoul, South Korea, 40 rising seniors from Sungshin University’s Army ROTC Detachment 218 visited cadets in MBU’s Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) on September 4. This year was the fourth annual visit from Sungshin, which is also a partner institution to MBU for study abroad programs.

After welcoming Sungshin visitors with gifts of the VWIL unit patch and American flag, cadets alternated seats with their guests to hear overview briefs from the two commandants and participated in small group discussions about the similarities and differences between their programs. Then they toured campus with stops at Kable Residence Hall, the Staunton Military Academy and VWIL museum, and the VWIL headquarters.

The Sungshin cadets were in the United States for eight days, during which they visited New York City; West Point, New York; Columbus, Georgia; and Washington, D.C., in addition to Staunton.
