Nell Desmond
With over a decade of international experience in the fields of education, NGOs, politics, and business, Nell is dedicated to change making at Mary Baldwin University, helping students develop personally and professionally in a variety of ways. As the Director of the Vantage Point, she is committed to providing learning opportunities for students to understand who they are so that they are better able to be of service to themselves and their community, living and working on purpose.
Nell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Studies from George Mason University and a Master of Arts in International Relations and World Order from the University of Leicester. She is a graduate of the Coaches Training Institute, a Sullivan Foundation Fellow, and an alumna of the University of Virginia’s Sorensen Institute for Political Leaders.

Jamal Carter

Jamal Carter
Jamal is currently now a junior at Mary Baldwin University, planning to major in Business Management with a special emphasis in Accounting/Entrepreneurship. Jamal is a hard-working motivated individual. He wants to seize many of the opportunities here at Mary Baldwin to further his college experience.
In the future, Jamal plans to get his MBA and then someday become a stockbroker on Wall Street. Not only that, Jamal wants to start his own clothing brand someday. Nonetheless, holding the position of Organizational Systems Coordinator, he assists with efforts in organizing information gathered from various sources, and planning/co-hosting related campus events, information sessions, workshops, etc. Being in The Vantage Point, Jamal hopes to make connections and make a name for himself in the world of business.

Mabel Rose
Mabel is a junior at Mary Baldwin University with a major in Communications. Mabel hopes to travel down a path that combines her love of the environment, love of community, and love of storytelling. She would like to use her strengths to uplift the stories of young people rebuilding and resisting in Appalachia.
At the Vantage Point, Mabel works as the Media Coordinator and draws from her knowledge of video production and website design to create visually appealing marketing materials to increase traffic to the office. She hopes that she can guide students on their path of finding their purpose through advocacy and activism.

Zaria Moore
Zaria is a senior at Mary Baldwin University, majoring in Criminal Justice with minors in Business and Sociology. Zaria enjoys volunteering and helping out in the community because it allows her to work closely with community members to help make a difference. In the future, she would like to work with convicted felons to redirect them to a positive path with hopes of reducing recidivism rates.
At the Vantage Point, Zaria works as a Peer Career Advisor, helping students to prepare and excel in the professional world. Through this position, she has had the opportunity to expand her networking and client servicing skills.
